New Zealand-born actor Ryan O’Kane, 35, who once played Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark in the tele-feature about the Danish royals in Mary: The Making of a Princess, has returned to New Zealand to visit his princely charms on Shortland Street.
The star returned earlier this year and married long term partner and fellow actor Jazmyne van Gosliga (Shorty fans may remember her as teacher Bobby Herve).
While O’Kane has a long list of credits to his name, including the award-winning role of a well-meaning ex-crim whose best friend is his dog in Australian show The Insider’s Guide to Love, followed by a role on hit Aussie drama, Home and Away. Now he is set to become a household name in New Zealand.
“Finally, I can answer that question back home when someone says, ‘I hear you’re an actor. Have you been in anything I would know?’” O’Kane says of his Shorty St role.
After playing hot-shot surgeon Riley Hawkins over the Ditch, O’Kane will again be donning the white coat, this time as Dr Dylan Reinhart.
“Dylan is nothing like Riley — which is a great challenge… and there are a hell of a lot more medical terms I have to say in this role — lucky my mate is an actual doctor who can help
with the pronunciation,” he laughs.
