Three long years after her last album of original material, Lady Gaga has today debuted her much-anticipated 'comeback' single, Perfect Illusion.

Co-produced and co-written with Uptown Funk hitmaker Mark Ronson, BloodPop and Australia's own Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker, the track is a storming pop-rock affair, with slightly less of the electro-pop sheen we've come to expect from her earlier work. Think Killers meets Kylie.

Perfect Illusion made its debut on radio stations around the world this afternoon but, despite Gaga tweeting that it would be available worldwide as soon as it premiered on radio, it's yet to show up on Aussie iTunes. Don't worry - we've got you covered:

It's three years since Gaga released her ARTPOP album, but she's been busy in the interim: She released an album of duets with Tony Bennett, filmed a Golden Globe Award-winning stint on American Horror Story: Hotel, and last year released the stirring Til It Happens To You, which appeared on the soundtrack to the documentary The Hunting Ground for which she was nominated for an Oscar.

There's certainly a lot riding on Perfect Illusion: Pop moves fast and Gaga's last top 10 hit was The Edge of Glory, way back in 2011. Can this full throttle comeback return her to the top of the charts?

She'll have stiff competition this week from Sia, who on Wednesday dropped her brand new single, which doubles as a stirring tribute to the victims of the Orlando mass shooting. She's just come off the back of a five-week stint at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with her hit Cheap Thrills.

Regardless, Gaga's got other irons in the fire: She recently signed on to lead a Bradley Cooper-directed remake of the classic musical A Star Is Born. No word yet on if or when Perfect Illusion's parent album will be released.
