Kiwis love their pets. According to statistics released last year, we have some of the highest pet ownership numbers in the world.
And celebs are no different when it comes to worshipping fur babies. (Except for the fact their pets are often expensive, purebred and – in some instances – have their own wildly popular social media accounts.)
Nadine Higgins (formerly Nadine Chalmers-Ross)
Former TVNZ star Nadine Higgins is a self-proclaimed crazy cat lady and crazy dog lady, sharing her home with a cat named Oscar and an almost 40kg German Shepherd named Rico (and new husband Dan Higgins, of course).
Rico, whom Higgins refers to as her "bestie", is never far from his humans' side – he even played a part in the couple's recent wedding ceremony, wearing his own tuxedo jacket for the festivities.
Performing overseas means comedian Urzila Carlson doesn’t get to see as much of her beloved Labrador, Molly, as she’d like.
Currently in Melbourne as part of the city’s Comedy Festival, Carlson told her Instagram fans: "I miss my bitch so much when I’m away!"
And who could blame her? Just look at that face.
As the fur baby of former Bachelorette Chrystal Chenery and her beau Ricky Cave, Bruce-Lee the French Bulldog is living the high life.
He has his own Instagram account (with more than 730 followers), which details his many adventures, including road trips, beach swims, brunch with Mummy's Bachelorette friends, stand up paddle boarding and barking at vacuum cleaners.
Yep, this little dude has got it made – and some attitude to boot.
From one cute Frenchie to another. Purchased from the same breeder as Chenery's Bruce-Lee, Rocky Savea is the third dog to join Julian Savea's family. (He and his wife also have two Samoyeds, Mia and Sanchez.)
The Savea dog squad also have their own Instagram accounts. And to potentially make you feel bad about your own paltry Instagram following, the Samoyeds have more than 1,500 followers, while their little brother Rocky already has more than 1,800.
Chenery and Savea's wife Fatima have previously talked about getting their French Bulldog brothers together for a play date. But proceed with caution, ladies. The internet may just implode from the cuteness of it all.
Those Super Rugby stars sure do love their dogs - Julian and Fatima Savea are far from the only Hurricanes crew members with a bunch of fur babies in tow.
Beauden Barrett and Hannah Laity are the proud parents of an all-black Miniature Schnauzer, Monty; TJ Perenara and Greer Samuel are besotted with their "little darling"; Ardie Savea and Saskia Hartmann have a couple of huskies; and Nehe Milner-Skudder and Hanna Tevita have recently welcomed puppies Olive and Wiremu to their family.
ZM Fur Babies
Let us not forget the two adorable balls of fluff that sparked an Instagram war between ZM colleagues Carl Fletcher and Megan Sellers.
Last August saw Fletch and his cat called Karen (Kaz) square off against Sellers and her dog, Leo James, in an online popularity contest.
Although it didn't end up being much of a contest after Sellers accidentally locked herself out of her dog’s Instagram account and Fletch managed to get Joe Jonas' endorsement for Kaz. Kaz the Cat snared 13,700 Instagram followers, while Leo wound up with 6,700 by the time the battle was over.
Although both pets look to have bright modelling careers ahead of them.
Anne Batley Burton isn't the only crazy cat lady of The Real Housewives of Auckland.
Louise Wallace also shares her home with a couple of cats, one of SPCA pedigree and one who is better known as the Princess of Paritai on Instagram. (Yes, another pet with an Instagram account.)
Wallace's Ragdoll beauty is described as a full-time diva and professional napper, which sounds like most cats.
But not all cats are as beautiful as this one...
Actress and director Angela Bloomfield is also the proud owner of a couple of exotically beautiful cats, Suki the Bengal and a Birman who goes by the name of Mickey Blue Eyes. (And yes, both cats have Instagram pages, but have got a little way to go before they can boast a following like some of their counterparts above.)
Living in a creative household has obviously rubbed off on Mickey, who is a natural in front of the camera, too.
Finally, we have the newest addition to Ingrid Hipkiss' brood.
The Newshub weather presenter and former Paul Henry newsreader looks to have spent Easter welcoming a schnoodle by the name of Louie into her home.
And can we just say – swoon!
