Who’s got the best Instagram game? Who offers the best behind-the-scenes sneak peeks at their glamorous lives? And who is the ultimate selfie champion?
We dole out the prizes in a round-up of New Zealand's cutest, funniest, sauciest and sportiest Instagramming stars.
The Best Use of Hashtags Award
Awarded to: David Farrier
In an age where hashtags can wind up being 10 words long and impossible to decipher at a glance, David Farrier likes to keep things simple.
Like, really simple.
Upon meeting a couple of dogs, he once wrote: "Words can’t describe how many very good dogs I have met #met #dogs #good."
Or there was the time he came across a three-legged cat and wrote: "This guy is super shy on our street and missing a leg but if you sit down with him he flops over and wants pats #pats #cats."
The Sauciest Instagram Award
Awarded to: Amelia Finlayson
When she’s not busy studying or modelling, Max Key's former girlfriend Amelia Finlayson spends her time demonstrating to her Instagram audience of 17,500 people that she's young, beautiful and enjoying life – even if life means spending a scantily clad weekend with a jar of Nutella.
The Cutest Pet Account
Awarded to: Bruce-Lee the Frenchie
The fur baby of former Bachelorette Chrystal Chenery and real estate wunderkind Ricky Cave, this French bulldog gets up to all kinds of adventures on his Instagram page.
(And that face is giving us life right now.)
The Most Coveted #OOTD Award
Awarded to: Jaime Ridge
Although she rarely tags any of her Instagram posts with #OOTD (or "outfit of the day" for those of you who don't do hashtags), Jaime Ridge's social media feed is one long parade of swoon-worthy outfits.
We want all of them, please.
The Cutest Couple Award
Awarded to: Anika Moa and Natasha Utting
It was a closely fought battle, but singer-songwriter Anika Moa and journalist Natasha Utting have pipped Art Green and Matilda Rice at the post for the Cutest Couple on Instagram title.
We don’t know if it's still just that newlywed glow, but the Utting-Moas are consistently adorable – even in rain ponchos during torrential downpours at Mt Smart Stadium.
The Best Behind-the Scenes Post Award
Awarded to: KJ Apa
The best photos on a star's Instagram page are always the ones that give us a sneak peek into what life is like as an actor/singer/model/whatever.
And as KJ Apa has discovered, being the lead actor in a hit US TV show means plenty of opportunities for casual "check out my amazing life" shots.
Case in point: His behind the scenes pic from promoting Riverdale this week. Yes, that's the one and only Dylan McKay (or actor Luke Perry for anyone who wasn't around in the early '90s) in the background. We are tres jealous.
The Best LOLs Award
Awarded to: Tim Batt
It doesn't really seem fair, seeing as he's a comedian by trade, but Tim Batt’s Instagram feed is always good for a LOL.
We especially enjoyed his recent "Tips For Hotelling".
The Most Frequent Foodie Award
Awarded to: Sharyn Casey
Yep, pictures of what we’re eating are a big deal on Instagram. There are literally hundreds of millions of food photos on there.
And contributing to that total in her own unique way is broadcaster Sharyn Casey, who has so many Instagram food photos, she's set up a whole other page for them (which is Sharyn's YUM List for anyone keen on a bit of food porn).
The Best Sportie 'Grammer Award
Awarded to: Cathrine Tuivaiti
Central Pulse netballer and Crowd Goes Wild reporter Cathrine Tuivaiti was very nearly given the Best LOLs award too.
She's got a quick wit to go with her quick feet on the netball court and isn't afraid to poke fun at herself on her Instagram page.
The Sweetest Family Pics Award
Awarded to: Ido Drent
There is no shortage of celebs and their super-cute offspring on Instagram (see Toni Street, Will Hall and The Block NZ's Alex and Corban) but the award for sweetest family photos lands at the feet of actor Ido Drent.
The former Shortland Street star often shares pictures of his son Bastion and daughter Elliotte – and they’re enough to make the hardest of hearts melt.
The Ultimate Selfie Champion
Awarded to: Laura Daniel
Anybody who follows comedian Laura Daniel's Instagram page knows it is essentially the same close-up selfie shot over and over again.
And it speaks to her talents and tenacity that she's managed to keep this gag going for so long.
