It won’t just be some of league’s finest players trying to score at Eden Park next weekend, at the Downer NRL Auckland Nines.
While the players’ attention will be on scoring on the field, single footy fans are seeking success off it at the tournament’s Singles Zone.
And there will be familiar faces in the area, including actress Teuila Blakely and Breakfast’s Brodie Kane.
Bachelorettes who have sought love unsuccessfully on reality TV dating show The Bachelor NZ will also be in the crowd, including Brigitte Dickson, Natalie Stol, Lisa O’Loughlin, Amanda MacDonald, Shari Flavall, Nicole Hunwick, Ceri McVinnie and Nazanin Khanjani. The latter will be taking five of her single mates.
An Invitation has also been sent to newly single health-and-wellness blogger Julia Matthews.
Organisers promise Gold Coast Titans star Konrad Hurrell will be paying a visit, as well his team-mate Jarryd Hayne. But ladies, new dad Hayne is definitely off the market.
VIPs watching in the corporate areas as the 16 NRL clubs do battle on the field include Warriors’ owner Eric Watson, (who has been staying at his Karaka home with his family this month), former NRL players Andrew Johns, Brad Fittler, Steve Menzies, Steve Price and Kiwis’ coach David Kidwell, and politicians including Auckland mayor Phil Goff, and MPs Judith Collins, Winston Peters and Jonathan Coleman.
Organisers are also hoping Rabbitohs’ owner and Hollywood superstar Russell Crowe will make his first appearance at the tournament, but there’s no word on that yet.
