Last Sunday, the star players were out in force at the welcome party for players in the ASB Classic Men’s tournament at Headquarters at Auckland’s Viaduct. But all eyes were on former Blackstick Gemma McCaw, microphone in hand interviewing the players for SKY Sport and looking gorgeous and fresh from her Wanaka holiday with husband Richie. Just for luck, the 27-year-old was wearing a stunning dress, (wrapped in a different style,) similar to what she wore for the first time she appeared in public as Mrs McCaw a year ago. McCaw had arrived into the Auckland storm a few days earlier but told Spy she was thrilled to be up and working for SKY.
“I really enjoyed doing the Hockey for SKY and they must have liked me, as they invited me up to do this,” she said.
McCaw was host broadcaster for November’s Sentinel Homes Women’s Hockey World League Final, in an all-female SKY Sport commentary team of experts, including lead commentator Rikki Swannell, presenter Bernadine Oliver-Kerby and former Black Sticks Sandy Hitchcock and Katie Glynn.
Sportswoman, turned successful sports reporter and now SKY spokesperson Melodie Robinson knows talent.
“We’re delighted to have Gemma involved in another of our SKY Sport productions after she debuted on the Hockey World League Finals. Gemma is well known as an athlete and health coach, and we’re pleased to see her adding another string to her bow as a reporter on the tennis, which involves colour stories and post-match interviews. Gemma is one of a number of new faces on our SKY Sport shows, and we’re pleased with fans positive reactions to the new members of the SKY team,” she said. McCaw did a great job throughout the week and enjoyed herself.
We see big things ahead for McCaw’s broadcasting career.
