The cast of Real Housewives of Auckland celebrated their onscreen debut at Snapdragon last night, watching on as friends and family witnessed the tears, catty remarks, extravagant spending and food-free lunches, for which the franchise is famous.
Guests at the launch included the housewives and their husbands. A few former Bachelor NZ contestants made appearances, including Chrystal Chenery and her partner Ricky Cave, Naz Khanjani and her new boyfriend Craig Sutherland and Khanjani’s partner-in-crime Claudia Congolen. Max Key's ex-girlfriend Amelia Finlayson was also spotted in the crowd.
During the screening of the first episode, the housewives divided into three separate camps. Camp one: Gilda Kirkpatrick and Michelle Blanchard watched in the back row. Camp two: Julia Sloane and Angela Stone looked on from the safety of the bar. Camp three: Louise Wallace and Anne Batley-Burton sat up front together.
A cheer from the crowd could be heard during the controversial "plus size" model comment made by Michelle Blanchard. Angela Stone announced to the crowd "she will be despised by everyone tomorrow". Word has it more tears flowed at the launch party.
Michelle Blanchard's husband Dave was overheard saying "Michelle’s holding the whole show together”. We're not sure she's holding it together - but she's certainly doing a good job of getting people talking about the show.
Straight after the screening, everyone was glued to their phones to check social media for public reaction to the show. Louise Wallace's husband, Scott, admitted he was nervous about the reaction. But from what we can see, Louise is definitely a fan favourite.
Twitter went into overdrive when the show had finished airing, with the #RHOAKL trending for quite some time. We picked out some of the most memorable tweets:

Dominic Bowden hosted the Facebook live session from 9.30pm. Afterwards, guests headed to the after party which was held at Sardine in Auckland's Viaduct Harbour.
We imagine there will be a few sore heads tomorrow.
The second episode will screen tonight, with even more fireworks and the Facebook live interviews with Gilda and Michelle at Gilda's house on Paritai Drive will guarantee some compelling viewing.
