There’s been a fair bit of banter amongst The Hits team recently about how hard it is to present live weather on TV – according to former TVNZ weatherman Sam Wallace.

So naturally, the radio larrikin decided to dare his lovely co-host Sarah Gandy to take up the challenge on Breakfast.

‘Sam the Weatherman’ arranged for Gandy to give live weather presenting a crack - and this morning she made her debut on TVNZ1.

Alongside Breakfast’s Matty McLean, Sarah had a shaky start but quickly found her feet in front of the green screen.

McLean asked: “Why are you here?”

“Haha, that’s a great question. I have been challenged by ‘Sam the Weatherman’ who is my co-host on The Hits and he’s challenged me to present the weather this morning” explained Sarah.

“I know nothing about weather. You know, I can talk about Beyoncé, that’s fine, I can do that. But weather is a whole other thing! In advance, I am sorry New Zealand.”

She then went on to deliver a ripper live weather broadcast in front of thousands of Kiwis – and we can honestly say she nailed it!

She even managed to slip in the two funny phrases that she was dared to say, including: “The African heat wave we deserve” and “slip in easily.”

Sarah also kept her cool when silly Sam pranked her with an embarrassing photo of her in a beard at the end of her weather segment.

What a pro. Good on ya Sarah!
