It seems Pork Pie star Dean O’Gorman, 40, can’t stop being chased by police.
He was part of the Blondini Gang in Pork Pie, and now he’s starring in fellow Kiwi Rebecca Gibney’s second season of Aussie drama Wanted. In it, O’Gorman hits the back seat, as Gibney’s character Lola rides Thelma and Louise-style with co-star Geraldine Hakewill across the South Island highways.
The first season saw both women inadvertently caught up in a deadly carjacking and forced to go on the run. This season they are billed as being back on the hunt to save Lola’s son — they will go to the ends of the earth. Well, Otago. O’Gorman has a major role and plays Hakewill’s love interest.
Gibney, 52, has enjoyed being based in her Queenstown home, with Wanted co-creator and husband, production designer Richard Bell.
The series is about to screen on Channel 7 in Australia and on Three in New Zealand later this year and features several Kiwi actors, including Outrageous Fortune’s Kirk Torrance.
“Wanted has been a fantastic acquisition for us. A large portion of the second series was shot on location in Otago — with some incredible scenery we can all be proud of. And, with a cast that includes some fantastic NZ talent in supporting roles, we could not ask for a more exciting drama to have in our schedule for later this year,” a Three spokesperson told Spy.
The TV marriage of Gibney and her Packed to the Rafters’ husband ex-pat star Erik Thomson seems to have borne fruit for the Kiwi TV industry. His top-rating show 800 Words is currently filming a third season on Auckland’s West Coast.
