In July Kiwi movie star Karl Urban has been on the global publicity junket for Star Trek: Beyond. Just weeks earlier he and the cast had to move on from the devastating news that their co-star had tragically died in a car accident. Urban also moved on from hopes that his role as Judge Dredd would be reprised.
What a month it has been for the Doctor of the USS Enterprise, Bones aka Urban. He has been on an unforgettable ride from London to the White House, where he and the cast met First Lady Michelle Obama last week.
Urban stood at the White House podium and said: “Friends, Romulans, countrymen, lend me your ears.”
Within a week Urban went from his trade mark, clean cut side-part, to a shaved head which he revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con, for his role as antagonist-turned-ally, Skurge in Marvel's upcoming superhero film Thor: Ragnarok. He will film in Australia with director and fellow Kiwi, Taika Waititi.
This month has been so good that Urban has been posting videos of himself lip-syncing the Beach Boys and Sting.
Thanks for taking us on the ride Karl.
One of the world's hottest dancers, Parris Goebel, has nothing to be sorry about right now.
Thanks to New Zealand Post, we get to see Goebel bust some moves on our ad breaks as she and her crew help the company to stay relevant with their new ad.
"What's the world taught you? For me, it's that life's about taking control, ignoring critics, pushing limits, you know - your passion." She inspires us.
This week the dancing mega-star was nominated for a VMA alongside Justin Bieber for their video collaboration of his song Sorry. In total, her work has been nominated for 3 VMAs – which is freaking fantastic.
In Goebel’s words: “Don't give up on your dreams, if this Polynesian high school drop-out from Auckland NZ can do it...you can do it too. ❤️❤️❤️ Big kisses to the incredible dancers that helped me bring this project to life.”
She's worked with some of the world's biggest pop stars, choreographed New Zealand's first hip-hop dance movie and just toured with Rihanna on her Anti World Tour.
Yesterday Goebel celebrated having 400,000 Instagram followers.
Keep inspiring us back home Parris
Chrystal and Ricky
We have filled many web pages of Season 1 and Season 2 bachelorettes this month.
Matilda Rice has been to New York and is the new ‘body’ for Jockey.
Dani Robinson is perhaps breaking social media travel records with her constant postings of boyfriend Logan Dodds and herself from exotic European vacations. (Don’t ruin his next travel video guys.)
We have speculated Alysha Brown is seeing a Blues player, Fleur Verhoeven is dating a photographer, whom she has apparently known for quite some time and Nazanin Khanjani pulled out of the Fight for Life, went to hospital and debuted her new music video all in one week.
But Chrystal Chenery takes the reality lead, with Spy revealing her boyfriend, real estate guy Ricky Cave has caught her reality bug and has been shoulder tapped for the Bravo series Million Dollar Listing. Since then Cave hashtags most of his posts with #mutlimilliondollarlisting – which is a very Auckland thing to do.
Since then the pair have been conveniently papped by a woman’s mag strolling on Tamaki Drive.
The world of reality is quite a ride, what’s next, Chrystal announcing she is going into real estate?
The month started with the release of Broods' new song Heartlines, which debuted on Apple Music and showcased a dark moody sensibility not too dissimilar to New Zealand's biggest pop export, Lorde who co-wrote the song with brother and sister duo Caleb and Georgia Nott.
New Zealand fans and media went crazy for the pair when they arrived back home to kick off their Conscious Tour downunder. It is fair to say the siblings wowed the nation not only with their music, but with their cool soft and smiley approach to interviews
Before they headed back to the US the pair posted to fans on Facebook: “We’re off back to LA now after an amazing start to the Conscious Tour and a few special days off with our fam. Thanks to the Adina Apartment Hotel Auckland, Britomart for being our home away from home in Auckland; and also of course to every single person who came to the shows in Aus and NZ - for singing and dancing along! See you soon America & Canada, let’s do this! Xx”
Yesterday the pair honoured their NZ roots again, releasing a 27 second clip with iZombie star Rose McIver starring in their Heartlines’ video.
The full version of Heartlines is set to be released on Saturday.
It just seemed like yesterday Rawdon Christie was making the nation laugh putting a hair-tie on his daughter’s hair in one foul swoop.
After news broke this month that he and his TV ONE Breakfast co-host Nadine Chalmers-Ross were set to be replaced by former TV3 News presenting veteran Hilary Barry and One News US correspondent Jack Tame, Christie posed up and glared at the camera with another jilted TV ONE star Mark Sainsbury.
There has been speculation Christie may be seeking legal advice over his exit from Breakfast.
He then took a week’s leave and headed for the snow and missed out on cheering Sam the Weatherman as he championed William Trubridge who broke his own world record of free-diving and set the new benchmark of 102 metres.
Whatever happens, we think the bromance between Sam and Rawdie will go the distance, when Toni Street vacated the morning couch for evenings, Wallace kept a picture of himself and Street as his Facebook profile picture.
Currently Wallace has a Facebook profile picture of himself and Christie leaning up against a red ute loaded with hay bales.
