Didn’t make the cast of Survivor NZ? Chances are you can have your slice of the drama as a super fan in Little Survivor, which will take place in a container called Survivor HQ in the TVNZ courtyard.
Little Survivor is a TVNZ-produced recap show hosted by Kiwi comedian Alice Snedden and resident TVNZ Survivor aficionado and Breakfast weatherman Matty McLean, which will be available to stream from Monday May 8 on: tvnz.co.nz/survivornz.
McLean takes being a super fan of the show to all new levels — he has watched every episode of every US season. At last count that means 33 seasons.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally see a New Zealand version. The show premise itself is incredibly entertaining and dramatic. Plus, we love to see ourselves reflected on TV, right? It’s pretty cool to see Kiwis competing onscreen,” McLean told Spy.
“I’ve spent 17 years dissecting Survivor with anyone who’ll listen (and even those friends and family who tuned out years ago to my ramblings,) so I’m not sure TVNZ knows what they’ve gotten themselves into for giving me an official platform like Little Survivor. I think it’s just a really cool place, viewers can come to join in on the discussion after each episode, and follow the progression of the show really organically with me and Alice, who are literally just sitting round having a yarn, like you do with any show you love.”
McLean and Snedden might just have to eat bugs and jump hoops.
“We will try some of the challenges. I’m someone who has always said I could win that show if I was on it,” McLean added.
If anyone has the inside running, it is the Little Survivor duo and both of them told Spy they want to meet Tom, the teacher from Tauranga. They both have a feeling about Tom. Of course they do — he is one of the show’s hunks.
