NZ Herald Focus presenter Laura McGoldrick returns to Outrageous Fortune prequel Westside this week.

McGoldrick, who is juggling her presenting role with the Lions’ Tour and her work at Focus, reprises her acting role from Series 2, as Wendy, the Wests’ nosy neighbour and head of Neighbourhood Watch.

This time Wendy gets to spend some quality time with Ngaire Munroe (Esther Stephens) and her now-man, Detective Mike McCarthy (Will Hall) which gets a little awkward given Wendy had an interlude with Ngaire’s ex-husband Lefty in the previous series.

McGoldrick says she loves playing Wendy: “She’s such a busybody and loves to get stuck into everyone else’s business.”

The role requires the pregnant star to don retro gear for the 1982 setting, but she says that makes getting into character easy.

“Once I get into my costume I really feel the part — those non-breathing, Lycra fabrics really make you feel like you are in the 80s.”

McGoldrick and her husband, cricket star Martin Guptill, are expecting their first child, a girl, in September.
