The former Shorty St star is featuring prominently on billboards from Sunset Boulevard to Times Square ahead of his anticipated lead role as Archie Andrews in the dark take on the famous 75-year-old comic in Riverdale, which debuts on the CW Network in America on January 26.

Expect his fame to grow rapidly as the series will then be launched globally.

“It’s definitely Archie, but a little darker, a little more complex and a little weirder than you might remember from the digest you bought at the supermarket. We’re saying it’s a little bit like Archie meets Twin Peaks,” executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told Entertainment Weekly.

The first episode received excellent reviews when it screened at Comic Con last year. Since then Apa, 19, has become a favourite on celebrity fan websites.

The day after Apa’s role as Archie hits TV and computer screens all over America, he will hit the big screen in the movie A Dog’s Purpose, in which he co-stars with Hollywood veteran Dennis Quaid.

Quaid plays the older Ethan, and Apa the younger with the movie told through the eyes of the reincarnated dog, Bailey. The film is directed by Lasse Hallstrom, who has been responsible for many celebrated movies and made Leonardo DiCaprio a star in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? in the 90s.

Apa’s Mum, former top model Tessa Apa, proudly posted a picture of her son featuring in the promo poster for the movie with golden retriever Bailey. The film hits NZ movie screens in April.

“I am very pleased people are going to see how hard KJ has worked in the past year, all culminating this month,” Apa’s NZ agent, Red 11 Director Mandy Jacobsen told Spy. She will join Apa on the red carpet this week at the premiere of A Dog’s Purpose.

The young actor, who has kept his head down with work in Canada and Los Angeles, where he is based in Venice Beach, had a taste of what’s to come last Sunday night among the Golden Globe action at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills with his Riverdale co- stars Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart.

We hear he turned heads at after-parties, where such starlets as the Jenner sisters were in attendance.
