Gorgeous Aucklander Georgia Fowler is set to become the first Kiwi-born model to grace the Victoria’s Secret catwalk — and she’s so thrilled she’s flying her mum and dad up to the world’s most famous runway show.
New York-based Fowler, 23, told Spy in an exclusive interview, that she is pinching herself over the call up to be a Victoria’s Secret “Angel”.
“I was ecstatic! I still can’t even put it into words or explain the emotions.
“I was in shock. I burst into tears of joy, and am still emotional just thinking about it. I have dreamed of being in the Victoria Secret show since I was a child and grew up with angels plastered on my diaries.
“So to be walking in the show with the likes of Angels like Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima is going to be such a pinch-me moment,” she told Spy from New York.
The show is in Paris on November 30, and will be shown on CBS in early December to a global audience in the millions. Grammy Award winning super stars Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and The Weeknd, will perform.
And what about her outfit? The winged creations include white and black angels, and one gets to wear the multimillion-dollar bejwelled diamond bra.
“I did my final fitting last night, and let’s just say I couldn’t have wished for a more beautiful outfit. But the rest has to be a secret, I can’t wait for you all to see. You’ll have to tune in!” said Fowler.
It’s little wonder Fowler is so excited — Victoria’s Secret played a huge part in launching supermodels Heidi Klum and Gisele Bundchen into the celebrity stratosphere.
Fowler, who grew up in Auckland and attended Diocesan School was discovered when she was 12.
The Red 11 superstar is enjoying her success, jetting around the fashion capitals of Europe from her base in New York, with many of the “It” models of the International modelling scene. In the past year Fowler has walked for Chanel in Paris and worked with Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, YSL and Armani.
Late last year she was linked to former One Direction star Harry Styles and at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, was on the arm of Hollywood’s biggest movie star Leonardo DiCaprio.
She tells Spy she stays looking good by “keeping fit and healthy”.
“I work out year round, so my training regime won’t change too much. I will definitely be doing everything I can to feel 100 per cent. We fly to Paris on a jet on November 27 and will be having final fittings, press days, and rehearsals before the big day on the 30th.”
In a modelling and celebrity world full of Squads, Fowler’s is the cool one and includes fellow models Hailey Baldwin, Romee Strijd and Gabby Westbrook.
Her mum Kim and dad Peter, a professional golfer, are right behind her.
“I am so fortunate to have had such a supportive family. My mum travelled with me for years at the beginning of my career and will still jump on a plane the minute I need her.
“My father has definitely taught me how determination and dedication pay off, so they’re both so proud to see me reach my goal after all the hard work I put in. And as they were both so invested in me from so early, they’re celebrating as much as I am. I’m flying my mum and dad to Paris to share the moment with me and watch the show, which is going to be so special.
“My extended family in NZ are also my biggest cheer squad, and have told me they’re hosting a viewing party with compulsory wings for everyone”.
Belgium-born supermodel Stella Maxwell, who spent time in New Zealand as a teen, will walk in her second Victoria’s Secret show.
