A Kiwi comedian has gone viral after failing to identify who Australian singer Nick Cave is.

James Malcolm, a 2016 Billy T nominee, posted a photo to Twitter where he asked followers for help identifying a celebrity.

“Can someone please tell me who this celeb is? Everyone was asking him for pics and I didn't wanna feel left out,” Malcolm wrote.

The celebrity in question was Nick Cave, who’s currently in New Zealand for several shows with his band The Bad Seeds.

Malcolm’s honest tweet has gone viral, getting over 9,000 likes and 4,000 retweets since it was posted Wednesday morning.

It also earned a number of comments, with the most prominent coming from David Bowie’s son and Warcraft director Duncan Jones.

“Nick Cave! He was in Con Air,” Jones wrote, joking about Cave’s resemblance in both name and appearance to Nicholas Cage.

Other people commented wth other fake suggestions, including suggesting Cave was John Travolta or Elrond from Lord of the Rings.

No word yet on whether Cave knows about the tweet yet or not, but given he played to a packed house at Vector Arena last night, it seems there are plenty of Kiwis who do know about him.
