Remember this big friendly guy? Well he’s just been eliminated from the Australian reality show I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!
Former Street Legal star Jay Laga’aia has become the second contestant to get eliminated from the show.
“I hope that my kids can look at this and be proud of me,” the father of eight said. “I am discovering a lot more about myself. It has been a fantastic experience.”
According to news.com.au, Jay was one of the most popular on the show trying to survive in the South African jungle.
He lasted three weeks living alongside celebrities Casey Donovan, Tziporah Malkah, Steve Price, Kris Smith and Natalie Bassingthwaighte.
Laga’aia has lost 13kgs in his three weeks in the jungle and revealed he had successfully smuggled two jars of Nutella into the camp.
“I always had some contraband on me,” he said. “The trick to contraband is to get two jars the same. It is still in my bag now. I didn’t eat it because I just wanted to prove to myself I could go for however long without eating it.”
One of the highlight’s of Laga’aia’s time on the show was the friendship he forged with former Australian Idol winner Casey Donovan.
“I am going to miss Casey D a lot, purely because we would just make up tunes all over the place,” he said. “Whether or not they were recorded, they kept us going and they were funny and they were one off’s. We are hoping to do (record) songs from the jungle (now I’m out).”
Laga’aia was close with all the campmates, taking on the fatherly role in the jungle and designated camp leader.
“He is a BFG, a big friendly giant,” beauty queen Tegan Martin said, while shock jock Steve Price added: “Jay is the sort of guy you need doing on an experiment like this, he is never afraid.”
Model Kris Smith said: “Jay is probably the nicest man on earth.”
