There will likely be a few broken hearts around New Zealand this week as they hear the news Richie McCaw has proposed to long-time girlfriend, Gemma Flynn.
The double World Cup-winning All Blacks captain shared the news of his engagement on his Facebook page this evening.
"I've had a fantastic start to 2016 and feel very lucky," he wrote.
"Gemma said 'yes'! It's been great celebrating our engagement with friends and family in sunny central Otago. Here's to a great year ahead."
In the photos posted to his Facebook page, McCaw and his Black Sticks fiancee are toasting their happy news with champagne, with Flynn's new diamond sparkler on display.
In another photo, the couple are seen celebrating with some of their nearest and dearest.
A couple of days earlier, Flynn had posted an Instagram snap of herself and McCaw at a wedding in Tuakau, saying "happiness is contagious".
McCaw had hinted late last year that he was ready to settle down now that his rugby commitments were over.
During an interview at the New Zealand Rugby Awards, McCaw was asked when babies might be on the cards, to which he joked "It's probably not my decision."
However, he went on to say: "I must say, your perspective on everything changes when you're no longer playing on Saturdays, so we'll see."
