They’re fit, they’re handsome — and they’re set to get hearts fluttering when fans tune into The Block NZ.
The show — premiering on TV3 tonight — will have a Girls v Boys theme.
Dylan Cossey, 27, and Dylan Guitink, 25, have been dubbed “The Blokes from Mt Maunganui” and are Spy’s early front-runners for Block glory.
Both are builders and both are hot. Cossey is a former age-grade rugby star and Guitink embarked on his building career after working as a personal trainer.
Cossey has a girlfriend, Jen, he met in the UK, but Guitink revealed he was still on the market, at the moment.
“I had a sort-of someone before we started the show, but I haven’t had time to even call my parents,” he said.
The pair’s building site experience raised eyebrows among The Block NZ’s fan base when this year’s cast was revealed earlier this month.
But Cossey said given the wide range of challenges on the show, it was still a level playing field.
“We would be building one day a week, our tradies do the rest,” he said.
“The Block NZ has many more challenges, especially in the design area. We are in trouble with that. It’s a girls’ thing, or indeed a thing for more gentrified men. They have that creativity and stuff over us blokes.”
A show spokesperson said it was “not against the rules of The Block NZ” for builders to apply.
“Much like in previous seasons, contestants have been plumbers, or designed and built their own homes before auditioning. The show is equally as much about styling and budgeting as it is about building.”
The boys from the Mount are joined in the boys’ side of the field by Sam Cable and Emmett Vallender from Wellington.
The two girls’ teams are Emma Diamond and Courtney MacKay, described by the show as “The Socialites from Dunedin”, and Niki Osborne and Tiffany Mair.
Tiff is based in Melbourne and is no stranger to TV, having worked as a set dresser on Medium and Niki is a forensic research scientist with a PhD.
The teams on The Block NZ have each been charged with renovating a 1980s townhouse in the Auckland suburb of Meadowbank.
