She’s all set and ready to co-host tomorrow morning’s Breakfast show alongside Jack Tame, but Hayley Holt says it’s been hard fight against her alcohol addiction after finding out she landed the new TV role.

“I was initially quite calm after hearing I got the job, but then about three days later, I was just sitting there and I had this sudden feeling of excitement but it was mixed with terror,” she confessed to Woman’s Day.

“So I went to AA three times that week, just going to keep myself very sane.”

The 37-year-old has been sober for three years and three months and has been getting help for her sobriety since her early 30s.

In 2014 at the age of 33 she checked into her first AA session and admits even now, 4 years on, she has to keep an eye on her ‘sanity’ so she can ensure she doesn’t undo the hard work she has put in.

“I look at alcohol and feel a bit sick. I can feel the poison in it. But you have the brain still, so you go to AA for free counselling and it keeps you sane.”

Tune in tomorrow morning from 6am to see Jack and Hayley and the team in action on TVNZ 1’s Breakfast.
