Brooke Fraser announced on Twitter and Instagram this week that she will be releasing four new unheard tracks along with an art collaboration with Gina Kiel, a Wellington-based illustrator.
Kiel creates beautiful images that explore ideas of life, death and pop culture using flowing lines and forms and bold, minimal compositions with a colourful palette.
The songs are from Brooke's private song stash.
Unlocking my private song stash in July to share four previously unheard songs. I'm releasing one track every Friday throughout the month along with an art collaboration with @ginakielillustration. #IVFridays #NewMusic #FourSongs #MyRapDebut #JustKidding #OrAmI #ActuallyItWouldntBeMyRapDebut #BecauseIAlReadyDIdThatOnTheHitSongTeamBallPlayerThing
Each new track will be released to the public every Friday in July, along with specially commissioned artwork by Kiel. The first song will be available on 1 July.
Brooke has been busy juggling the new songs, visiting friends, the sad passing of a loved one as well as being mum to daughter Dylan.
It's been a funny old week. A convergence of deadlines and loved friends visiting town, the passing of a family member and generation, grieving across distance, personal challenge and stretch... So we've come away. I attempt to fall deeper into the unforced rhythms, not by wrestling and "trying-real-hard" to, but by sitting in the salt air and breathing in time with the waves. Sometimes you just gotta go to the ocean.
Fraser moved to Sydney in 2004. On 17 March 2008 she married Scott Ligertwood and on 18 September 2015 they welcomed gorgeous baby daughter Dylan Wilde Ligertwood.
Brooke has enjoyed huge successes since she released her first album What to do with Daylight in 2003, becoming one of New Zealand's top selling recording artists of all time.
We know the new tracks will be just as fantastic and the staff here at Spy can't wait to hear them.
