All Blacks stick together — even on holiday, it seems.
Beauden Barrett and Israel Dagg are joining the former skipper Richie McCaw and coach Steve Hansen by buying a holiday home in the stunning Southern Lakes playground.
While Hansen and McCaw chose Lake Wanaka, the younger All Black stars have chosen Queenstown, and are building a holiday home with their mate, Auckland property developer Kurt Gibbons.
Gibbons married long-time love The Crowd Goes Wild reporter Makere (formerly Bradnam) in Wanaka at Rippon Vineyard earlier this month. Barrett and girlfriend, tax accountant Hannah Laity, and Dagg and his pregnant wife Daisy, were there — the latter taking time out from decorating the baby’s room for the arrival.
The Daggs and the Gibbons have often holidayed together in Queenstown and Spy understands Wellington-based Barrett and Laity love the area too.
The house will be for holidays as well as an investment to use as a homestay for tourists visiting New Zealand.
It will be behind the Hilton Queenstown in Kawarau Village, 15 minutes from the town centre, and is due to be finished by this Christmas.
The Gibbons and Barrett and Laity were at the NZ Polo Open last Sunday. There was no sign of an engagement ring on Laity’s finger, however Spy did ask her about the incredible gift from Stewart Dawsons that she snapchatted last week for Valentine’s Day.
Makere Bradnam and Kurt Gibbons.
In a case was a bottle of Lanson Champagne, a signet ring for Barrett, and diamond drop earrings and a tennis bracelet with large diamonds. A gift from her to him or both?
We asked Laity, flawless in a Zimmerman dress, whether they were real, and she gracefully replied that ”it was such a lovely gift, but no, they were cubic zirconia”.
There’s another hint for Barrett.
