Win-Win

The Whiskey on Ponsonby Road has long been an institution but now it has a new sister bar right next door that’s causing a stir.

Win-Win is all about bringing the bright lights of Vegas to the Ponsonby strip.

With expertly crafted drinks and a cocktail list that changes regularly, Win-Win’s exotic concoctions feature everything from cocoa leaf liqueur to white chilli truffle tea and orange blossom water. They also have alcoholic jelly shots from The Jelliologist.

If cocktails or jelly aren’t your thing there’s plenty to satisfy the beer drinkers, while the snacks menu includes buttery popcorn, arancini balls, potato croquettes and stuffed mushrooms from Ponsonby’s Il Buco (just down the road).

Naked espresso martinis ready for their gilded sprinkles.

Jack

You may have downed a few bevvies at the popular Ponsonby bars Harry and George… but did you know there was a third brother?

Introducing Jack. Tucked well away from the public eye, Jack is one of Ponsonby Rd’s best kept secrets.

Just walk through the hustle and bustle of George and Harry to sneak through the lone unassuming door at the very back of the room. You are then transported (Narnia-style!) into another world.

It has devilishly dark corners and cocktails to match, plus magical views of the Skytower and DJs or live music five nights a week. You can thank us later.

PARTY! #ponsonbypride

Caretaker

Think you’ve seen all that Britomart has to offer? Trust us, you haven’t. Caretaker is a delightful hidden gem that caters especially to those in the know.

Hidden away below REC, off Britomart’s main square, Caretaker operates more like a restaurant than a bar. You have to wait to be seated by the maître d and it’s strictly table service only.

Once seated, the charming staff will stop by for a chat before whipping up a cocktail to specifically suit your tastes.

With an old school Prohibition vibe and house rules like “don’t bring anyone you wouldn’t leave alone in your house,” Caretaker is a place for grown ups to relax. Grab your girlfriends and enjoy.

The calm before the storm. Live music starts at 9.

Elyx House Espresso Martini Pop up

Replacing The Juniper Room on Fort Lane, The Elyx House is the latest pop up bar to hit Auckland – celebrating everyone’s favourite late night tipple, the espresso martini.

Designed by Paul Izzard and based on the Absolut Vodka bottle, the modernist décor features rectangles of copper splashed on white walls.

Get in quick, this pop up is strictly a limited time only.

Vodka Room

A slice of St Petersburg has come to Ponsonby in the form of Vodka Room on Rose Road. Dripping with chandeliers and red velvet upholstery, the impressive fit out is an Oligarch’s dream. With more than 50 vodkas on offer, the top shelf offerings aren’t cheap but will totally change your view of vodka.

In addition to being a great bar and restaurant, Vodka Room also offers private karaoke with… wait for it… a custom “press for vodka” button. Holla!
