A three-way Twitter feud has broken out between Hollywood veteran James Woods, Armie Hammer and Amber Tamblyn, with accusations Woods once tried to pick up the actor ... when she was 16-years-old.

It started when Woods, 70, criticised Hammer's new film, Call Me By Your Name, about a gay man who romances a teenage boy.

It led Hammer to tweet, "Didn't you date a 19 year old when you were 60.......?".

Then Tamblyn chimed in. "James Woods tried to pick me and my friend up at a restaurant once," the actor wrote on Twitter. "He wanted to take us to Vegas. 'I'm 16' I said. 'Even better' he said."

Woods, who has more than 800,000 followers on Twitter, then responded: "If somebody has something of value to say, I always love to engage in a dialogue," while not directly referring to Hammer or Tamblyn's claims.

Woods appeared to make another dig at the stars in response to an unrelated Twitter user's comment ("I met you once when you were in Shreveport, La.

You stopped by my window in a hospital and asked for directions. Made. My. Day").

Woods replied: "I'm so glad. Did I offer to take you to Vegas?"

Tamblyn then posted a screenshot on Twitter of a conversation between her and a friend, who was a witness to Woods' alleged advances. Woods then accused Tamblyn of lying.

A Twitter user asked Woods about Hammer's film, which he had criticised.

"What makes a 24yo/17yo gay relationship inherently indecent but skeevy old guys trying to pick up a pair of 16 year old girls is okay?", the user tweeted.

Woods responded: "The first is illegal. The second is a lie."
